KU Center for design research

Lawrence, KS _ STUDIO 804 inc

Designed and built entirely by the 23 students of the non-for-profit Studio 804 Inc., The Center for Design Research is the flagship building for the University of Kansas’ new Design Research Campus. The prototype building meets both LEED Platinum and German PassiveHaus requirements by implementing many sustainable strategies that maximizing the potential of existing resources, minimize environmental degradation, and create a new, interactive, sustainable building prototype. Through the implementation of these strategies, as well as renewable energy systems, programmable glazing, and a fully integrated Building Monitoring System, the building itself is serving as a collaborative research instrument.
